The capital district recorded a fall in polling percentage for the local body elections as compared to that in 2020.
The voter turnout this time, according to the figures issued by the district administration just before 8 p.m., was 67.42%. This was lower than the 70.02% registered five years ago in Thiruvananthapuram district. As many as 19,63,684 people cast their votes. The total number of voters in the district is 29,12,773.
The turnout among the 13,53,215 male voters in the district was 9,14,228 (67.56%). Of the 15,59,526 women voters, 10,49,334 cast their votes (67.29%). Seventeen (53.12%) of the 32 transgender voters in the district also voted on Tuesday.
Corporation
The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation recorded a poll percentage of 58.24. Of the 8,14,967 voters in the civic body, 4,74,620 cast their votes. As many as 2,31,606 (59.73%) of the 3,87,790 male voters, 2,43,004 (56.89%) of the 4,27,162 women voters, and 10 (66.67%) of the 15 transgender persons exercised their franchise.
Municipalities
Among the four municipalities, the polling percentage was the highest in Neyyattinkara at 70.36% (47,008). The least was in Varkala at 66.39% (22,514). Nedumangad registered a voter turnout of 70.28% (40,934) and Attingal at 68.87% (22,607).
Block panchayats
Perumkadavila recorded the highest voter turnout among block panchayats at 73.94% (1,33,568). Varkala had the least at 68.65% (96,522).
The polling percentages for the other block panchayats are as follows: Nemom 71.69% (1,77,252); Pothencode 69.98% (1,04,312); Vellanad 72.45% (1,51,151); Nedumangad 69.74% (1,13,395); Vamanapuram 70.11% (1,39,650); Kilimanoor 71.06%(1,32,681); Chirayinkeezhu 69.09% (92,164); Athiyannoor 73.47% (92,535); and Parassala 71.17% (1,22,443).
There were 3.264 polling stations in the district. In all, 6,310 candidates, including 2,992 men; 3,317 women; and one transgender candidate, contested in 90 local bodies.
Polling in Vizhinjam ward was put off following the death of a candidate. The State Election Commission will announce the new date later.
