The State Election Commission has rejected 2,261 nomination papers filed by candidates for the 2025 local body elections following a scrutiny, as per provisional figures released on Saturday evening.
The final figures are expected on Sunday.
In all 1,40,995 nomination papers filed by 98,451 candidates have been approved. The list of approved nominations includes 74,592 nominations filed by 51,728 female candidates, 66,400 nominations filed by 46,722 by male candidates and a set of three nominations by one transgender candidate – in Thiruvananthapuram district.
Malappuram has the highest number of candidates (12,556) after scrutiny. The deadline for withdrawing nominations is 3 p.m. on Monday.
The district-wise list for approved candidates are as follows: Kasaragod (3,878), Kannur (7,566), Wayanad (2,838), Kozhikode (9,482), Malappuram (12,556), Palakkad (9,909), Thrissur (9,468), Ernakulam (8,214), Idukki (3,733), Kottayam (5,630), Alappuzha (7,135), Pathanamthitta (3,829), Kollam (6,228), Thiruvananthapuram (7,985).
Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram topped the list of rejections with 527 nominations. In all, 401 nominations were rejected in Kottayam and 348 in Ernakulam.
The district-wise list for rejected nominations are as follows: Kasaragod (51), Kannur (98), Wayanad (67), Kozhikode (108), Malappuram (150), Palakkad (56), Thrissur (116), Ernakulam (348), Idukki (125), Kottayam (401), Alappuzha (71), Pathanamthitta (94), Kollam (49), Thiruvananthapuram (527).
As per the updated figures on nominations filed till the deadline ended at 3 p.m. on Friday, a total of 1,09,671 candidates had filed 1,65,927 nomination papers for the local body polls. The final figures on scrutiny are awaited.
