Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has received numerous complaints about accidents and crop damage caused by the wild boars.
The State government on Thursday asked the local self-government bodies to effectively implement the government order to eliminate wild boars that enter residential areas and cause damage to human life and property, either by shooting or through other permissible means.
The Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest department has written a letter to this effect to the Additional Chief Secretary, and Director of the Local Self-Government department.
District Collectors have also been asked to convene monthly meetings on the wildlife conflict issue and take effective action. Although the chairpersons and secretaries of local self-government bodies have been given the authority to issue orders to shoot and kill dangerous wild boars, many local self-government bodies have not implemented this order effectively.
As a result, Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has received numerous complaints about accidents and crop damage caused by the wild boars.
It is against this backdrop that the Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest department has written a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary, and Director of the Local Self-Government department.
A pamphlet titled ‘Wild Boar Conflict—Everything You Need to Know’ containing details about the killing and extermination of wild boars that enter populated areas outside the forest has been distributed among local self-government body authorities and other departments concerned.
