In a striking outcome in the civic elections held on December 11, one of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidates in Mannarkkad municipality managed to secure just a single vote.

The LDF-backed independent candidate, Firos Khan, who contested from Kunthipuzha (ward 1) using the television symbol, received only one vote, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate K.C. Abdurahman won the ward with 312 votes.

There were allegations that the LDF had an understanding with the Welfare Party of India (WPI) in the ward. The WPI-backed independent candidate, Sidheeque Kunthipuzha, secured 179 votes, while another independent candidate, Faisal K.T., polled 65 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Sudheesh P., managed to get only eight votes.

The LDF fielded Firos Khan as an independent candidate at the last minute amid growing allegations of the alliance between the LDF and the WPI in the ward.
