Kerala

The Kudumbashree district mission will organise two Onam markets in each of the 83 community development societies (CDS) in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Onam markets will be held for three to five days at the end of August or early September. The markets, held annually, are a platform for Kudumbashree entrepreneurs to showcase their products, including agri and livestock products, and pickles, pappadoms, and other value-added products, while consumers are able to get their Onam necessities at fair prices.

Plans to organise a centralised food festival in convergence mode are also under way.

As part of promoting the Pocketmart shopping app that will go live soon, the Kudumbashree will make available online 5,000 Onam hampers Statewide. The hampers that cost ₹799 plus delivery charges include nine products – chips, sarkaravaratti, payasam mix, sambar masala, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric, and veg masala. This is expected to bring in ₹40 lakh in total.

Besides the online hampers, Onam kits will be supplied offline by each CDS. A kit will cost ₹750 and include 11 products, including chips, sarkaravaratti, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric, payasam mix, sambar masala, pickle, pappadom, and coconut oil, all contained in a bag with a uniform design and zip. With at least 100 kits expected to be supplied in each CDS, a turnover of at least ₹1 lakh is expected from the sale of the kits.

The district mission also plans to take orders from government and private institutions for Onasadya in the city Corporation limits. Eight units will supply the sadya that will have a common menu. A minimum number of orders will likely be fixed by the mission for the Onasadya.
