All private buses in Kozhikode district will take part in the indefinite bus strike that is scheduled to be held from July 22 across the State, functionaries of a joint protest committee of private bus owners have said.

Chairman of the committee K.T. Vasudevan told reporters here on Sunday (July 20) that their demands included a hike in the bus fare for students, easy renewal of the permits for limited-stop and long-distance buses, a rollback of the law that demands police clearance certificates for the bus crew and imposition of fines through e-challan.

Convener of the committee K. Radhakrishnan, treasurer T.K. Beeran Koya and vice-chairman M. Thulasidas took part in the press meet.

Meanwhile, the Kozhikode district committee of the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) has demanded that the State government intervene and resolve the issue before the strike begins.

“The bus services in the State were mostly running at a loss. The government should take steps to save the sector. An indefinite bus strike would adversely affect trade and normal life,” President of the Samiti P.K. Babbu Haji, general secretary V. Sunil Kumar, and treasurer Jiji K. Thomas said in a press release.
