The four northern districts of Kerala – Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode – have been put under red alert on Saturday (July 19, 2025) due to a forecast of heavy rains. Warnings have been issued by the respective district administrations against venturing out unnecessarily and especially into the seas.

A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts, besides Vadakara taluk in Kozhikode district.

However, except for Kasaragod, which is experiencing heavy rain and strong surface winds of up to 60 km/hr speed, the rain situation is rather moderate in the other districts. There are intermittent rains in the upland areas of Kannur, while this has subsided in the city and coastal areas. Intermittent rains have been lashing the Vadakara taluk in Kozhikode district and Wayanad district, however, its does not amount to the severity of a red alert situation.

There have been no severe damages either due to the rain recently in any of these districts except waterlogging in some low-lying areas.
