The Kerala government will float an exclusive medical insurance policy providing health cover for Keralites abroad and within the country, The policy is also expected to enhance medical tourism in the State.
The insurance policy will provide cashless medical services of up to ₹5 lakh to non-resident Keralites in a network of over 17,000 hospitals in the country, including around 470 hospitals in Kerala.
The policy, to be jointly launched by the New India Assurance, offers a personal accident claim of ₹10 lakh to the insured or his/her family. The policy is expected to benefit over four million Keralites abroad and with in the country.
Ajith Kolassery, Chief Executive Officer of NoRKA-Roots, said the project, NoRKA Care, aimed to bring all expats under affordable medical care and insurance coverage in the country.
In many countries, especially in the United Kingdom and Canada, the waiting period for insurance coverage is too long and the cost of medical cover too high. The new policy offers insurance coverage for all pre-existing diseases without any waiting period at a premium of ₹13,400 for a family unit of four, including two children, says Mr. Kolassery.
Further, all non-resident Keralites in the age group of 18 to 70 with an identity proof issued by the NoRKA-Roots can join the policy, while there is no age restriction for dependent children.
The medical tourism sector is expected to benefit from the policy, with non-resident Keralites expected to seek treatment in the State. Medical tourism is gaining popularity across the globe with more foreigners seeking treatment in wellness centres in the State during the peak season.
The global launch of NoRKA Care will be done by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on September 22.
