Excise officers from Kerala have nabbed a suspected operative in an international narcotics network from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi.
The accused, Mohammed Jamiu Abdu Rahim, a Nigerian national, was allegedly operating a large-scale drug distribution network across Bengaluru and Kerala. He was arrested by a special investigation team (SIT) led by Wayanad Assistant Excise Commissioner Y. Prasad.
The sleuths had been probing the origins of several commercial-quantity drug cases in Wayanad. This trail eventually led them to the international drug racket. Four people who were arrested earlier in the cases, had purportedly received drugs from Abdu Rahim in exchange for money.
The accused is also suspected to have been the main supplier to other African nationals in Bengaluru and a key facilitator for drug distribution into Kerala.

The SIT had been monitoring the accused for nearly two months. When they previously attempted to apprehend him in Delhi, the accused had already left for Nigeria via Ethiopia. A Look Out Circular was subsequently issued, leading to his eventual return to India with assistance from Central agencies.
He was detained IGI Airport with assistance from the Bureau of Immigration (BoI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB). The accused was transported to Kerala under tight Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security.
State Minister for Local Self-Governments, Excise and Parliamentary Affairs, M.B. Rajesh congratulated the Excise department for the successful operation. He added that the arrest is a “golden feather in Kerala Excise’s cap” and reinforces the State’s uncompromising stance against narcotic trade.
