Two third-year B.Tech students and first-time voters from Kerala are the developers of the ‘EVM Track’ software that the State Election Commission (SEC) will be using for the upcoming local body elections to track the deployment of electronic voting machines (EVM).

Aashin C. Anil from Thiruvananthapuram and Jeswin Sunsi from Thrissur are third-year Computer Science students at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. Both youngsters were felicitated by State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan here on Tuesday for their contribution to the electoral process.

Using the EVM Track software, the Commission will keep track of each EVM; for instance its current location, which polling station of which constituency or whether it is in the strong room or the counting centre. Under the supervision of L. Suryanarayana, the EVM consultant of the commission, the duo had prepared the programme after rectifying glitches.

The project was realised through the EVM Inventory and Software Management System, the Commission said.

EVMs consist of the ballot units and control units. The Commission had completed first-level checks have been completed on 1,37,922 ballot units and 50,693 control units.

The 2025 local body elections in Kerala will be held in two phases with seven districts each going to the polls on December 9 and December 11.
