Journalists manhandled in Thiruvananthapuram

The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) Thiruvananthapuram district committee has called for strong legal action against auto rickshaw drivers who allegedly assaulted journalists on Friday

Deshabhimani photographer Arun Raj and reporter Aswathy T. Kurup purportedly came under attack at Bakery Junction. The incident reportedly occurred when an auto rickshaw came close to hitting their motorcycle.

Both the journalists sought medical treatment at a hospital after the assault. The KUWJ has urged the auto rickshaw workers’ union to adopt action including expelling members involved in such violent incidents. The union also demanded that the police take stringent legal action against those responsible for the attack.

The City police have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
