IndiGo on Wednesday launched flights from Mumbai to Copenhagen in Denmark, its third destination in Europe this year, which it will serve thrice a week. In July, the airline made its big entry into western Europe with non-stop flights to Amsterdam and Manchester up until which it was only flying to Istanbul in Turkey and Tbilisi in Georgia within the continent.

The airline’s CEO Pieter Elbers called the Copenhagen stop the airline’s “strategic gateway” to the Nordic region. The airline has also announced daily flights to London Heathrow starting October 26.

Copenhagen airport’s Senior Director, Airline Sales and Route Development, Morten Mortensen told The Hindu that apart from Air India’s five weekly flights to Copenhagen already in place, Denmark’s national airline SAS will also commence flying to Mumbai with four weekly flights from summer 2026.

“The attractive part about our airport is that we are the only airport in Europe where we have a minimum connection time of 45 minutes which includes border control and security processes,” Mr. Mortensen explained.

“Ever since the announcement of India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership by the leadership of both countries in 2020, bilateral relations have encompassed business, cultural and tourist ties, academia, research and innovation, and tourism. Direct connection between Mumbai and Copenhagen would further boost these ties and even serve the greater Nordic market with connections beyond Mumbai,” said Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Denmark, during a ceremony at the airport here.

He added that many Danish companies are present in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to whom these flights will be useful, in addition to the 23,000 strong diaspora in Denmark and more from Norway and Sweden.
