India wins 3 gold, 2 silver medals at International Physics Olympiad 2025

The gold medal winners include Kanishk Jain from Pune, Maharashtra; Snehil Jha from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; and Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The silver medals were won by Aagam Jignesh Shah from Surat, Gujarat, and Rajit Gupta from Kota, Rajasthan.

The Indian team was led by Prof Sitikantha Das from IIT Kharagpur and Vinayak Katdare, retired faculty from DG Ruparel College, Mumbai. They were accompanied by two scientific observers — Dr Amruta Sadhu of St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and Dr Vivek Lohani of Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany.

The International Physics Olympiad is one of the most prestigious global competitions for pre-university students, testing their theoretical and experimental skills in Physics.

Meanwhile, India secured the seventh position among 110 participating countries at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held in Sunshine Coast, Australia. The six-member Indian team returned with a full medal tally — three golds, two silvers, and one bronze. With a cumulative score of 193 out of 252, the team not only earned a global ranking, but also set a new national record for the highest score achieved by India in IMO history.

Moreover, Indian team also delivered an impressive performance at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), held in Dubai from July 5 to 14, clinching two gold and two silver medals. The four-member team secured 6th place in the overall medal standings among 90 participating countries.

The selection and training of the Indian contingent were overseen by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). HBCSE serves as the nodal agency for conducting National Olympiad Examinations in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Astronomy.
