The hospital block and manuscript centre of the International Ayurveda Research Institute in Kannur will be completed by December. The institute is the best that could have happened to the Ayurveda sector in the State, Health Minister Veena George has said.

Inaugurating the Ayurveda Day celebrations here on Tuesday, Ms. George also launched 12 AYUSH projects to the tune of ₹14.39 crore across the State.

The hospital that is coming up as part of the Ayurveda research institute will have 100 beds.

She said that the National AYUSH training institute would soon be launched. These activities were being expedited by the government after clearly comprehending that setting up research facilities in Ayurveda was crucial to the growth of the sector.

The government is also focussing on improving the quality of care as well as specialty services in Ayurveda, she said.

The government will also take up standardisation and accreditation of wellness sector initiatives as well as quality evaluation of Ayurveda certificate courses to ensure their credibility

Eye care

Ayurveda eye care treatments are now available in all districts, Ms. George said. This was enabled by revamping the existing Ayurveda eye care units in the State and by setting up an additional six “Drishti’ units.
