The District Collector has declared holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges and tuition centres, in Ernakulam on Monday (May 26, 2025) due to the ongoing rain.

The authorities have urged people to avoid leisure trips to hilly areas and waterbodies. The Collector has ordered traffic on hilly roads to be monitored between 7 p.m. on Sunday (May 25, 2025) and 7 a.m. on Monday, allowing movement only for emergencies, according to an official communication.

Work in quarries has been banned until further notice. Residents in areas prone to landslips or flooding may be relocated for safety. Fishing in seas and inland waters is also banned until further notice.

The Collector advised residents in houses vulnerable to heavy winds and roof damage to take precautions or relocate to safer places. People have been warned to avoid beaches, and those near waterbodies or canals are advised not to enter as water levels may rise suddenly without warning.

Drivers have been told not to park vehicles below trees as instances of tree fall have been reported. People must follow officials’ instructions, including relocating to safer areas. Only trained personnel are permitted near landslip or flood-affected zones.

Residents near the Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha rivers have been warned to stay alert after five shutters of the Malankara Dam are opened.
