Google’s AI powered NotebookLM may soon get Video Overviews feature

Technology

Google’s NotebookLM is one of the best AI powered apps. Unlike normal AI powered chatbots like ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini, the tool sources information from your research notes, which means it is unlikely to hallucinate.

In September last year, the tech giant unveiled a new feature called “Audio Overviews”, which lets users turn their notes into a podcast with AI hosts that discuss your notes and can even answer questions about it. Now, a recent post on X by the known tinkerer TestingCatalog News suggests Google is working on a new feature called “Video Overviews.”

Likely powered by the company’s latest video generation model – Veo 2, the tech giant says its AI video generator can understand real-world physics as well as human movement and expressions, which helps it create highly realistic videos.

Located right next to Audio Overviews, Android Authority says the new feature isn’t operational at the moment, but there’s a chance the tech giant might unveil it at Google I/O 2025, which will be taking place later this month.

With Google claiming that Veo 2 can generate “clips of several minutes in length”, it will be interesting to see if NotebookLM’s Video Overviews will replace the company’s AI generated audio podcasts or enhance them by adding visual effects. But considering Audio Overviews are sometimes more than an hour long, it is likely that the work in progress feature may fuse short clips with long audio narration.

The company is also giving NotebookLM’s Studio section a slightly redesigned user interface alongside a new category called “Editor’s picks”, which may let you publicly share notebook resources and highlight the most useful information.
