Girl child’s death: police to probe suspected negligence in medical care

Kerala

The police have registered a case to probe the “unnatural death” of a nine-year-old girl who was undergoing treatment for fever at a government hospital in Thamarassery. An investigation was launched following a complaint by her parents that the girl was not given timely treatment and was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, at the last hour.

The victim, identified as Anaya Sanoop, was a Class IV student from Korangad. The child succumbed to fever-related complications on Thursday night (August 14, 2025) at the MCH. Her parents alleged that her condition worsened because the hospital authorities in Thamarassery failed to provide timely and adequate medical attention during the golden hour that morning. They claimed she was referred to the MCH in the evening merely to cover up the lapses in treatment.

Meanwhile, the government hospital authorities in Thamarassery said the allegations were baseless and that the cause of death would be clear after the post-mortem report. They also stated that the girl was referred to the MCH after all possible treatment support had been provided.
