General purpose grant: Kerala govt releases second instalment of ₹213.43 crore to local bodies

The Kerala government has sanctioned ₹213.43 crore for local bodies towards the general purpose grant for the 2025-26 fiscal.

The sum constitutes the second instalment of the grant, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Monday.

The grama panchayats will receive ₹150.23 crore and block panchayats, ₹11.23 crore. Districts panchayats are eligible for ₹7.89 crore, municipalities ₹ 25.83 crore and corporations, ₹18.25 crore.

The government has authorised the release of ₹4,051 crore to local self-government institutions in the past six weeks, Mr. Balagopal said. This includes ₹2,150 crore as the first instalment of the development fund, ₹78 crore as untied grants, ₹1,396 crore as the first instalment of the maintenance fund, in addition to the first instalment of the general purpose fund totalling ₹213.43 crore, the Minister said.

These allocations were ensured in April itself, he said.
