A gang of three unidentified people allegedly robbed ₹80 lakh from a shop at Kundannur on Wednesday after reportedly putting the employees at gunpoint. The alleged broad daylight robbery took place at a wholesale steel trading firm owned by one Subin around 3 p.m.

The Maradu police have launched an investigation into the incident following a complaint filed by the shop owner. The police have taken into custody an acquaintance of Mr. Subin in connection with the incident. The man in custody, a native of Vaduthala in the city, was reportedly present at the shop when the alleged crime took place, a police source said.

There were three men wearing masks in the gang, Mr. Subin said. “They brandished guns and swords at us and took away the cash. I had withdrawn the cash from the bank to purchase raw materials,” he added. The police detained Mr. Subin’s acquaintance on suspicion that he knew about the cash.

A police officer said that efforts were on to trace the car in which the gang fled after committing the alleged crime. The gang had reportedly masked the number plate of the car too. The police examined CCTV visuals in the vicinity of the shop.
