The Parassala police on Sunday arrested a man who had been absconding for the past 30 years.
According to the police, the arrested, Jayakumar, 55, of Thirupuram, is an accused in multiple theft cases. In 1996, Jayakumar was accused in a burglary case on the charge of stealing cash and over 30 sovereigns of gold from a house. While he was arrested at the time, he later jumped bail and vanished.
Following his escape, Jayakumar is believed to have moved places, including Kollam and parts of Tamil Nadu, constantly changing his name and appearance to avoid detection. He purportedly worked as a construction worker in various locations.
His luck ran out when the police received a tip-off that he would be visiting his fiancee in Kattakada. Acting on the intelligence, officers set up a surveillance operation and managed to apprehend him.
The arrest comes just a month after the Parassala police nabbed Rajappan, who had been absconding for 30 years after being accused in a murder case.
