Family attempts suicide, one dies

Three members of a family in Kodumon attempted suicide, resulting in the death of a 48 year old woman.

The deceased was identified as Leela (48), who was found hanging inside her residence. Her husband and son, who reportedly consumed an overdose of pills, have been shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Another son of the couple is currently employed in Ernakulam.

Initial investigations suggest that the family was driven to this extreme step due to severe financial distress. All three are believed to have consumed whatever pills were available in the house. Leela then took her life by hanging from a ceiling fan in the bedroom while her husband and son were asleep.

The incident came to light in the morning when the two surviving family members informed the neighbours. Upon revealing that they too had consumed pills, they were first taken to Adoor Taluk Hospital and later referred to Kottayam Medical College.

According to local residents, the family had taken loans from multiple private financial institutions and faced threats due to non-repayment. The police confirmed that the family was under heavy financial burden and said that a detailed investigation is on.
