The State has decided to appoint an expert committee to study the changes to be made in the technical procedures to be followed for bridge construction works in the State. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the reports of recurring accidents during bridge construction works in the State.
A high-level meeting chaired by Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas here on Saturday decided to form the expert committee with experts from institutions such as IITs and NITs. Chief engineers from the Public Works department will also be included in the committee. The Minister also directed that the committee should examine what changes should be made in the matters currently specified in the PWD manual.
The additional requirements that should be arranged at the work sites should also be examined by the committee. The Minister directed the secretary of the PWD to ensure the committee submits its report on time. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the PWD, K. Biju, Chief Engineers and others.
