The authorities at the University of Calicut have stopped the exam registration process for first and third semester postgraduate students in various departments on its campus at Tenhipalam in Malappuram after technical glitches were noticed while entering details in the K-REAP software.
According to sources, the details of students will be collected afresh now, and the examinations will be held only after this procedure. The Kerala Resources for Education Administration and Planning, or K-REAP, is a software launched recently to integrate the administrative systems in colleges and universities. Students will be able to remit their exam fees only after successfully registering on the website. The deadline for the purpose was earlier fixed on November 23. The heads of departments were supposed to verify the details by November 25.
However, a section of students complained to the authorities that they were not able to enter their subject code after logging onto the website. The portal was getting stuck while clicking the option for first-semester students to enter their details. Some students were not even able to open the website properly. Some others were finding it difficult to finish the creation of their profile.
Following this, the authorities discussed issues such as including changes in the course code and addition of new courses to the revised syllabus, and their non-inclusion in the K-REAP software. It was decided to temporarily stop the registration for both first and third semesters until the modifications were done in the software.
In a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, P. Rasheed Ahammed, Syndicate member, had earlier said that the software was displaying academic programmes and centres belonging to institutions outside Kerala, while the regular programmes offered by the university were not visible. “The situation is particularly concerning because the university already possesses its own well-functioning examination management software, developed through internal technical expertise and used successfully for several years. Approximately 45 skilled technical personnel have already been appointed in relevant units for system development and maintenance. While the university’s examination system has a proven track record, campus departments were instructed to shift to K-REAP based on government directions, not due to academic or administrative necessity,” Mr. Ahammed had said.
