Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reiterated the need to ensure student safety as schools reopen on Monday after two months of summer vacation.
Arrangements for school safety, cleaning up of school campuses, travel safety, and midday meal scheme were in the final phase, Mr. Vijayan said at a press conference on Thursday.
He emphasised that classes could be conducted only if a certificate for fitness of school buildings was obtained from the local body concerned.
Safety of students should be ensured in schools where construction activity was on. School premises should be cleaned up and all hazardous situations avoided. Inspections should be held to rule out the presence of reptiles.
Basic infrastructure needed by differently abled students and an environment conducive to their education should be ensured in schools.
Waterbodies on school premises or nearby should be made secure and signage installed at sites where waterlogging is a possibility.
Review of safety measures while using public transport, private transport, school buses or water transport to schools and crossing roads or railway crossings should be held at the school level, Mr. Vijayan said.
