The State government informed the Kerala High Court that a draft legislation to address issues in the State’s entertainment sector is likely to be placed before the Council of Ministers within a month.
The draft legislation was prepared after including suggestions from members of the public.
The court that was hearing cases related to the Hema Commitee Report had in an earlier hearing mentioned lacunae in the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) 2013 Act of 2013, stating that it did not cover sexual exploitation of women job seekers. Subsequently, the Kerala Women’s Commission recommended a special legislation for the entertainment sector.
The matter has been posted for the next hearing in the second week of November.
