Deepti Braille literacy: Minister distributes certificates for skill training

Kerala

The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority’s ‘Deepti Braille Literacy’ scheme that provides Braille literacy to the visually challenged is an excellent initiative, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice R. Bindu has said.

She was speaking after inaugurating the certificate distribution to participants of a skill development training held as part of the Deepti scheme on Thursday.

The Minister said the scheme was enabling the differently abled to enter the world of letters. The training would reduce the gap between education and training, she said.

Literacy Mission director A.G. Oleena said Deepti’s influence went beyond Braille training for the visually challenged to their lives.

Antony Raju, MLA, presided over the event. ASAP Kerala chairperson Usha Titus said communication was a strength of human being. Understanding the role of language in it to hone one’s abilities is what will lead people to new job opportunities.

Skill training was conducted with the support of ASAP Kerala and the Federation of the Blind for 15 select Deepti learners from various districts in ‘Customer Care Executive and IT’ in August.
