The Pathanamthitta Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) has sought two weeks to submit an inquiry report into a Dalit woman’s complaint of custodial harassment following a theft allegation by her employers.
The Pathanamthitta Crime Branch DySP appeared at a sitting conducted by commission chairperson Alexander Thomas. The case will be taken up at a sitting to be held at the commission office on August 4.
The commission chairperson had directed that the case be investigated by a DySP employed outside Thiruvananthapuram district. He had also sought that the domestic worker’s statement be recorded in the presence of a woman lawyer. The lawyer should be appointed by the District Legal Services Authority secretary.
The commission had registered a suo motu case on the basis of media reports. The Dalit woman had complained that the police had subjected her to mental torture for 20 hours after her employers alleged that she had stolen a gold necklace.
