Community organisations have freedom to take own decisions, says K.C. Venugopal

Community organisations have the freedom to take their own decisions, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal has said. Speaking to the media in Alappuzha on Sunday (September 28, 2025), Mr. Venugopal said the Congress was not party to criticisms against the Nair Service Society (NSS).

“The Congress respects community organisations. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) attempts to embrace community organisations are nothing but a public relations stunt. The BJP’s policy is to appease community organisations on one side and attack them on the other. On one hand, they talk about Christian love. On the other hand, in the States they govern, they harass Christian priests by writing critical articles about them in their newspapers, filing cases, and attacking them. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh agenda is to eliminate secularism,” the AICC general secretary said.

On the issue of vote theft, Mr. Venugopal said the Congress was engaged in a nationwide agitation. “We will collect five crore signatures, demanding answers from the Election Commission of India to five specific questions,” he said.

On the proposed special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters’ list in Kerala, Mr. Venugopal said that it was nothing but vote theft.  “Amid preparations for the local body elections, a comprehensive revision of the voter list is not practical in Kerala,” he added.
