To review the local body polls, Idukki District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt led an official team to the first tribal panchayat at Edamalakkudy in the district and reviewed the poll arrangements in the tribal panchayat.
The team reached the tribal panchayat after walking a few kms because of the absence of proper road connectivity.
After the delimitation, there are 14 wards in the tribal panchayat and 41 candidates contesting the election. A total of 56 polling officials were deputed to the 14 polling booths in Edamalakkudy.
Officials said the district has completed all arrangements for smooth polling in the hilly district of Idukki. A total of 9,121,333 voters will cast their votes on Tuesday. In the district, there are 52 grama panchayats, eight block panchayats, two municipalities, and a district panchayat.
A total of 3,100 candidates are contesting the local body election in Idukki. A total of 4,768 officials have been deputed for polling duty.
To ensure the security, nearly 2,000 police personnel have been deputed. A total of 17 Dy.SPs, 51 Circle Inspectors, 238 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant sub-inspectors, 1842 civil police officers, 84 home guards, 177 special police officers, and 92 officials from the excise, Motor Vehicle Department, and Forest Department have been assigned for polling duty.
