ChatGPT maker OpenAI is rolling out a new feature that lets the AI chatbot refer to your past conversations to offer personalised answers.
In a post on X, OpenAI said ChatGPT can now draw “on your preferences and interests to make it even more helpful for writing, getting advice, learning, and beyond”, meaning the AI chatbot will now be able to add conversational context to its responses.
The new feature is named “reference saved memories” and can be found in ChatGPT settings. It will be first rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscribers all over the world except. However, those living in the UK, EU, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein as these regions still need external reviews to comply with local regulations.
Starting today, memory in ChatGPT can now reference all of your past chats to provide more personalized responses, drawing on your preferences and interests to make it even more helpful for writing, getting advice, learning, and beyond. pic.twitter.com/s9BrWl94iY

While ChatGPT could already remember your past conversation thanks to its Memory feature, the new feature aims to make the AI chatbot feel more personal and eliminate the need to give information you have already shared in the past.
OpenAI knows that not everyone will be thrilled at the idea of an AI chatbot remembering everything they have said, so it is giving users the option to opt out of the functionality and even manage specific memories. The AI startup also said that users will be able to ask ChatGPT what it remembers. In case you don’t want personalised answers, just switch to the temporary mode, which works similar to incognito mode on browsers.
If you are already using the Memories feature, the new “reference saved memories” will be enabled by default. Also, it is still unclear if and when the new functionality will be available to those using the free version of ChatGPT.
