Champakulam Moolam boat race on July 9

The annual Moolam boat race, considered the season opener, will be held on the Pampa river at Champakulam in Kuttanad on July 9.

A meeting of the boat race executive committee, chaired by Champakulam grama panchayat president T.G. Jalajakumari, on Friday reviewed preparations.

Officials said the number of snakeboats at the race would be capped at nine. The number of boats in ‘A’ grade Odi, ‘A’ grade Veppu and ‘B’ grade Veppu categories is restricted to three each.

The meeting constituted various subcommittees for the conduct of the race.
