Minister for Archaeology, Registration and Museums Ramachandran Kadannapally on Sunday (May 18) said that public involvement is essential for the country’s development. He was speaking after inaugurating a mass cleaning drive at Chalathodu.
The initiative is jointly organised by the Haritha Keralam District Mission and Janakiya Samithi. The cleaning drive will cover a 7-km stretch from K. V. Peedika in Chembilode to Nadal Bridge in Chalathodu. The cleaning is being carried out in four segments—Jilsaramukku, Maniyalamchira, Chala, and from MIMS Hospital to Nadal Bridge. The Minister actively participated in the cleaning alongside volunteers.
Around 200 people took part in the drive, including members of the Janakiya Samithi, Student Police Cadets from Chaliyam School, students and teachers from Chala and Thatamkuni Madrasas, and residents, especially women and children.
As part of the awareness campaign, a public walk was organised on May 11, and lamps were lit at four locations on May 17 to symbolise the community’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Chembilode grama panchayat president K. Damodaran, Edakkad block panchayat member E.K. Sureshan, Haritha Keralam District Mission Coordinator Somasekaran and several local leaders and activists also addressed the gathering.
