Central aid for five projects at Sree Sankaracharya University

Five projects submitted by the faculty members of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, have been awarded a total financial assistance of ₹31 lakh under the Central schemes of the Ministry of Education for the promotion of the Sanskrit language.

The projects have been cleared for support under ‘Ashaadashi’ (18 projects), included under the Sanskrit promotion programmes in the country, implemented through the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi.

A project on ‘A Critical Edition and Study of the Prodyota commentary on Prayogamanjari’ has won a grant of ₹9 lakh. An assistance of ₹10 lakh has been awarded for a project on ‘Contemporary Sanskrit Literature: A Reflection of Society, Education and Culture’.

The Ministry of Education has sanctioned ₹5 lakh for a project on ‘Digital Study Toolkit for Keralodaya: Translation of Commentary and Analysis’. A funding of ₹6 lakh has been granted for a project titled ‘Hastalakshanadeepika – Text and its interpretation based on Kerala Traditional Art form Kathakali’. A project on vocational training for the promotion of Sanskrit has won ₹1 lakh in assistance, according to a communication.

The faculty members who have received the Central funding for the projects include K.M. Sangamesan (Sanskrit Sahitya), Lisha C.R., Sivaja S. Nair, Athira Jathavedan (Sanskrit General) of the main campus in Kalady, and K. Abdul Rasheed (Sanskrit Vyakarana) at the Tirur regional centre, it said.

The release said that projects submitted by V. Ramakrishna Bhat and V.R. Muraleedharan, retired faculty members of the varsity, have received funding under the ‘Shastra Chudamani’ scheme for financial assistance for utilisation of services of eminent or retired Sanskrit scholars.
