The top scoring student in the CBSE Class XII examinations this year has scored perfect 100s in all her subjects.
The CBSE has not officially announced a country topper or toppers to “avoid unhealthy competition”, a practice it has been following in recent years. However, at least one student has received full marks in all her papers.
Yuvakshi Vig (17), a student of Amity International School Noida, had appeared in the English, History, Political Science, Psychology and Painting papers in the CBSE exams. When the results were released on Friday morning, she was elated to find that she had scored a perfect 100 in all of them.
“I wasn’t really expecting it. I had given all my attention to what I was doing and just hoped for the best possible outcome,” she said.
Another student, Tanya Singh (18), of Delhi Public School, Bulandshahr, also scored 100 in 5 subjects: English, History, Economics, Geography and Hindustani Vocal Music papers. However, she also had a sixth subject, Political Science, in which she missed out on two marks and scored 98.
While both students are delighted with their results, they are also aware these marks will not be enough to get them into the programmes and colleges of their choice since both want to study at Delhi University, which has adopted the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from this year.
Yuvakshi wants to study B.A. (Honours) Psychology while Tanya wants to study B.A. (Honours) History.
“I want to study in Delhi University and I’m in the middle of my CUET papers. I still have one paper left and am working on that, but I think my other papers went well,” said Yuvakshi.
The school-leaving batch which received their results Friday studied through most of Class 11 and 12 in the online mode. While the shift from offline to online proved to be challenging for many, both Yuvakshi and Tanya said it was smooth sailing for them.
“The first few months of online learning were difficult because it was something that I had to adjust to. But my teachers were always there for me, they were a phone call away, cleared my doubts and they made online learning seem as normal as possible. I do not feel like I suffered academically because of this,” said Yuvakshi.
A large number of students scored 100 in individual subjects. The subjects in which the highest numbers of students scored 100 are Business Studies (4,710), Hindustani Music Vocal (4,634),
Physical Education (4,286), Chemistry (3,548) and Mathematics (2,890). While the board has not announced a merit list of toppers, it will be issuing merit certificates to the top 0.1% scorers in every subject.
