The Cantonment police registered a case against filmmaker P.T. Kunju Muhammed for sexually harassing a film activist during a screening for selecting films to the upcoming International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
The filmmaker, who is entrusted with heading a selection committee for a film category at IFFK, has been accused of misbehaving with a colleague at a hotel following the screening of a film last month. The complainant had subsequently written to the Chief Minister, who forwarded the complaint to the State Police Chief.
The police have ascertained the presence of the complainant and the accused at the hotel through CCTV footage. The accused has been charged under Sections 74 (assault or using criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) and 75(1) (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
