The Infopark police in Kochi on Monday registered a case against actor Unni Mukundan for allegedly assaulting his manager.

The petitioner was identified as Vipin Kumar. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the alleged assault took place in the basement parking of an apartment complex in Kakkanad, where the petitioner lived, around 11.30 a.m. on Monday.

The alleged assault occurred allegedly over Mr. Kumar’s positive review of a recent Malayalam film in which Mr. Mukundan’s contemporary played the lead character. Mr. Mukundan summoned Mr. Kumar to the basement parking and assaulted him, and restrained him when he tried to flee, besides issuing a death threat and verbally assaulting him, the FIR said.

The police registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 296(b) (utterance of obscene songs or words in public places), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 324 (mischief). The police are likely to summon Mr. Mukundan for recording his statement.

Mr. Kumar petitioned the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) while Mr. Mukundan petitioned the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

“The working secretary has been asked to hear both the parties to get clarity on the incident. Since Mr. Mukundan is also involved with AMMA, we may also have to engage with that organisation. Our steering committee is likely to come up with a report in a couple of days,” said B. Unnikrishnan, general secretary of FEFKA.

Actor Baburaj, member of the AMMA ad-hoc committee, said that the organisation had received a petition from Mr. Mukundan raising serious professional allegations against Mr. Kumar. He was not sure if Mr. Kumar had petitioned the AMMA. Mr. Baburaj said they would listen to both the parties.
