Cancelling flag-off ceremony: show-cause notice to MVD official

Kerala

A day after Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar cancelled a flagging-off ceremony of vehicles procured for the Motor Vehicle department (MVD), upset over the arrangement of the programme, a show-cause notice has been served to Assistant Motor Vehicles Commissioner V. Joy for the alleged lapses in organising the flag-off ceremony.

The Minister had called off the event on Monday and left the venue, announcing that strict action would be taken against those who failed to organise the function appropriately.

The Minister had earlier instructed to line up 52 vehicles procured for the department in front of the Kanakakunnu Palace. However, the MVD officials could not arrange the vehicles as instructed, as the Tourism department denied permission, stating that the tiles laid on the platform would be damaged. The Minister was upset over this, as the message was not passed on to him on time, and the poor attendance of officials also provoked him.

At the same time, the impromptu decision of the Minister to cancel the event and his announcement to take action against officials have invited sharp criticism among the MVD officials. After the incident, the Minister is now planning to hold the event in October.
