The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to prepare a blueprint in six months for turning the capital city into one of the top developed cities of the country if voted to power, BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said after inaugurating the local body election convention of the party in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram is craving development and a change of guard in the Corporation. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is the only front that can bring change in the capital, he said.

The main achievements of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Thiruvananthapuram include the absence or dysfunction of 40% of street lights in the city, two lakh stray dog bite cases in the last five years, and poor waste collection and clogged drainages, apart from no potable water connection to 5.5 lakh families, he said.

Sabarimala has now become a centre of middlemen. Instead of tall talks, politics of performance is required now, and the NDA is the only front that can introduce double-engine corruption-free governance in the capital, he said.

The Congress has become the ‘B’ team of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] in the State, and the party is now hoping to garner votes by raising the Sabarimala issue. The performance of the United Democratic Front (UDF) legislators was pathetic in the Assembly. They failed to bring development to the State despite eight Ministers from the State being included in the two United Progressive Alliance (UPA) governments in the Centre. Now, the party is batting for Hindus in Kerala after rubbing shoulders with the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Social Democratic Party of India, he added. He urged residents of the Corporation to give a chance to the BJP by electing 101 candidates of the NDA.
