Biju murder case: Thrissur court finds 8 RSS workers guilty

The Thrissur District Court has pronounced eight RSS workers guilty in the brutal murder of DYFI activist Biju, 31, at Kumbalangad, Wadakkanchery. The judgment was delivered by K.M. Ratheesh Kumar, the Thrissur 3rd Additional District and Sessions Judge.

The convicted are first accused Mooraayil Jayesh, 43; second accused Iravukulangara Sumesh, 42; third accused Kuttikkadan Sebastian, 46; fourth accused Thaikkadan Johnson, 51; fifth accused Kizhakkottill Biju alias Kuchelan Biju, 46; seventh accused Karimpanavalappil Satheesh alias Sajeesh, 39; eighth accused Karimpanavalappil Saneesh, 37; ninth accused Karimpanavalappil Suneesh, 34. The sixth accused, Ravi, passed away during the course of the trial.

The crime occurred on May 16, 2010, when Biju, the son of Thomas from Chalakkal House in Kumbalangad, was hacked to death in front of the local library. He was attacked alongside his friend Jineesh, 24, a headload worker and CITU member, who survived the assassination attempt. Jineesh, the son of Rajan from Panthalangatt House, was the prosecution’s prime eyewitness.

Despite being rushed to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital, Biju succumbed to his injuries.

The prosecution argued that political rivalry was the motive behind the murder. The investigation was led by T.S. Sineesh, who was the then circle inspector of Wadakkanchery.

The prosecution presented 24 witnesses (including Jineesh), 82 documentary evidences, and 23 material exhibits, including the weapons used in the attack. The legal team for the prosecution included special public prosecutor K.D. Babu, Sharath Babu Kottakkal, and Reshma P.V.
