ASI offers training for tour guides

Former Archaeological Survey of India director K.K. Mohammed inaugurating a training programme for registered tour guides at Palakkad Fort.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and India Tourism Team Kochi jointly organised a training programme for registered tour guides from across the State here on Monday.

Inaugurating the programme at the heritage hall of Palakkad Fort here, former ASI director K.K. Mohammed called upon the people to preserve heritage monuments as they reflect the cultural history of the nation.

Presiding over the function, ASI superintendent S. Vijayakumar said that tourism goes beyond just visiting a place. “More than just sightseeing, it is an opportunity to learn about a nation’s history and culture,” he said.

India Tourism assistant director M. Narendran was the chief guest. Mr. Vijayakumar led a class on Indian heritage tour guiding. Conservation scientist T. Satyamoorthy led a class on history and ASI monuments in Kerala.

Mr. Mohammed led a class on memorials and their conservation. Senior conservation assistant N. Muhsina spoke. Several guides from across the State took part in the training programme.
