A case of amoebic meningoencephalitis has been confirmed in Kochi. The patient, a native of Lakshadweep working in Edappally, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. According to health officials, the patient’s condition is stable.
According to the latest Health department data, as many as 153 cases of amoebic meningoencephalitis have been reported in Kerala so far. A total of 33 deaths have been recorded.
Two confirmed cases were reported on October 31, one in Ernakulam and the other in Thodiyoor, Kollam. A death was also recorded that day in Palathara, Kollam. The deceased was a 65-year-old man.
A total of 65 confirmed cases and 12 deaths due to amoebic meningoencephalitis were reported in the State in October.
