The Thalassery Additional Sessions Court in Kerala on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) acquitted all 16 Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers accused in the New Mahe double murder case related to the killing of RSS activist Vijith (28) and Shinoj (30) in Pallur.
Two of the accused died during the trial, while the remaining 14 were found not guilty as the prosecution failed to prove the charges.
The double murder, which had sent shockwaves across Kerala, took place on May 28, 2010. Vijith and Shinoj were hacked to death after a bomb was hurled to create panic near Poosarikovil in New Mahe. The attack occurred when the two were returning after appearing before the Mahe court in connection with a case related to the attempted murder of a CPI(M) worker in Pallur.
Among the acquitted are N.K. Sunil Kumar, alias Kodi Suni, K.K. Muhammed Shafi, K. Shinoj, who all are already serving prison terms in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case. Besides them, T. Sujith, T.K. Sumesh, T.P. Shameel, A.K. Shammas, K.K. Abbas, Rahul, K.V. Vineesh, P.V. Vijith, , Faisal, Sarish and T.P Sajeer were also acquitted in the case. Two of the accused – Mohammed Rajees and C.K. Rajikant – died since the incident.
The trial that began in January 21 was completed on August 19. The prosecution examined 44 witnesses and produced 63 exhibits and 140 documents.
Special public prosecutor P. Premarajan appeared for the prosecution following a High Court directive based on a petition filed by Vijith’s mother, Rajamma. Advocates C. K. Sreedharan and K. Viswan appeared for the defence.
