Bharti Airtel Ltd will ask the Union government to revise its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, after the Supreme Court gave Vodafone Idea Ltd. some flexibility in obtaining some relief for the period from 2016–17 onwards. “We’ve always said that the AGR judgment— we sought reviews around calculation errors, [and having lost that] was a disappointment for us,” Airtel India managing director and CEO Gopal Vittal said on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) in response to a query at the firm’s quarterly results call with investors.
“We are pleased that this [the dues] has been allowed for reconciliation by the court,” Mr. Vittal said. “We are now going to be taking it one step at a time. First, we’re going to reach out to the government, and this is something the company will do over the course of the coming days, then we will take it from there.” Mr. Vittal did not categorically say whether the firm would approach the Court again, where its pleas have been refused in the past.
Home broadband
Mr. Vittal said that in the “next five to six years,” the home broadband industry would expand from 50 million households to 100 million households, and said that the company was keen on taking advantage of this growth. Additionally, Mr. Vittal said that the firm would seek to get more high value users onto postpaid plans. “Our focus is to upgrade 90 million credit scored potential customers to our postpaid services,” he said.
