The overall air quality in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Tuesday (October 21, 2025) after slightly slipping to ‘moderate’ level at some locations on Monday and Sunday night following Deepavali celebrations.
The Kerala capital’s average AQI recorded at Plammoodu was 76 on Tuesday morning, with air quality returning to the ‘stable’ category, whereas it was 168 AQI (moderate category) at the same time on Monday, according to the data available with the Kerala Pollution Control Board.
Speaking to The Hindu, Kerala Pollution Control Board officials said the air quality dropped to the moderate category on Sunday night, with the average AQI standing at 153 between 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. However, the air quality improved by midnight due to the prevailing easterlies.
The northeast monsoon rains, accompanied by the easterly winds, brought the air quality to ‘good’ and ‘satisfactory’ categories on Monday and Tuesday, said officials.
