Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty on Friday inaugurated the State-level commencement of this year’s seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) residential camp at Government LP School, Aramada, on Friday.
He also announced ‘Snehanganam’ project, which aims to give a makeover to some 1,500 Anganwadis across the State with the support of the NSS volunteers.
Based on the theme “Youth for the Holistic Development of the Village,” this year’s camp is envisioned under the title “Life-giving Stream of Human Love that will Continue to Flow.”
Mr. Sivankutty said a river did not recognise caste, religion, or boundaries when it quenched people’s thirst. In the same way, overcoming every challenge, the NSS volunteers should aim to impart love to people in pain, he said. He also urged the volunteers to uphold and propagate the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You,” throughout the seven-day camp.
The function was presided over by N.S.K. Umesh, Director of General Education. Speaking at the event, Mr. Umesh said: “We are not here just because of our abilities or hard work, but also because of the opportunities we have received. Through this camp, we must learn how to use our opportunities to help those who have not had similar chances.”
The inauguration was held simultaneously across 1,500 NSS units in Kerala, with around seven Ministers, 35 MLAs, several former Ministers, MPs, and other prominent personalities inaugurating functions across the State.
Shajitha S., Joint Director (Academics) and Programme Coordinator, Higher Secondary NSS, stated that the camp aimed to nurture the potential of youth, embracing their individual strengths and fostering positive change in both students and society in response to the evolving needs of the era.
