Among the 13 Assembly segments in Kozhikode district, the Kozhikode North Assembly constituency has the highest number of absent, shifted or dead (ASD) category voters in the draft electoral roll published on December 23 as part of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters’ list in Kerala.
While 1,84,784 enumeration forms were distributed in the constituency, 23,709 were not returned. This comes to around 12.83%. Kozhikode North figures among the 20 Assembly segments in the State with high number of voters excluded from the list, the data show.
In the Kozhikode South Assembly segment, while 1,59,953 forms were distributed, 18,059 were not returned. This comes to 11.29%. In the Balussery segment, while 2,31,532 enumeration forms were distributed, 17,606 were not returned.
Lowest in Koduvally
The lowest number of voters in the ASD list in the district is in the Koduvally Assembly segment. Only 8,129 were not returned when 1,90,131 forms were distributed. Kozhikode North, Kozhikode South, and Balussery constituencies were won by Left Democratic Front candidates in the 2021 Assembly polls.
Meanwhile, major political parties have begun cross-checking and verification of the draft list. A senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader told The Hindu that party workers were examining the list at the booth level. Party activists were also conducting house-level visits. Thereafter, steps for addition and deletion of names would be taken up, he added.
Kozhikode District Congress Committee president K. Praveenkumar said a detailed Assembly-level verification would be taken up in the coming days and steps would be taken to add genuine voters found missing from the list. “It is a cause for concern that the highest number of voters have been excluded in constituencies where the BJP has an upper hand,” he added.
The number of such voters in other constituencies are as follows: Vadakara (10,488), Kuttiyadi (12,007), Nadapuram (13,221), Koyilandy (15,051), Perambra (12,053), Elathur (12,115), Beypore (17,234) Kunnamangalam (15,761) and Thiruvambady (10,746).
