Man collapses after being hit by Theyyam shield during temple festival in Neeleswaram

A youth collapsed and briefly lost consciousness after being reportedly struck with a ceremonial shield during a Theyyam performance at the Vishnumoorthy Temple in Neeleswaram on Saturday evening.

As part of the Theyyam ritual, performers traditionally strike fear among devotees by tapping them with a shield.

However, the wooden shield carried by the performer reportedly hit a local resident, identified as Manu, with considerable force making him lose consciousness.

Manu was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was given first aid. He was discharged later.

No case was filed.
