Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) of stalling development in the Kannur Corporation through what he termed as “corrupt politics”.
Speaking at an election convention of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the Kannur Corporation, Mr. Chandrasekhar said the BJP had demonstrated a development-oriented model over the past 11 years and promised a “corruption-free governance” if the party was given charge of the Corporation.
He said the BJP would bring administrative services to the citizens’ doorstep through digital delivery, rather than forcing people to visit the Corporation office. A detailed blueprint for Kannur’s development would be presented before voters.
Mr. Chandrasekhar said people were dissatisfied with both the UDF and the LDF and alleged that the two fronts, despite being rivals in Kerala, were united in 27 other States. Only the BJP-led front, he said, had the political strength to “end this drama”.
Gold theft probe
Mr. Chandrasekhar alleged that the investigation into the Sabarimala gold theft case now stood at “the doorstep of the Chief Minister’s office”, reiterating his party’s demand for a Central probe.
He accused the CPI(M) of shielding former Devaswom Board president A. Padmakumar, claiming that the party was protecting him to prevent the name of senior leaders linked to the case from emerging.
