The local leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] in Kalamassery has said that the rebel menace in two wards in the civic body will have no impact on its prospects in the local body election. K.B. Varghese, area committee secretary, on Friday (November 21) said that those contesting as the party’s official candidates were selected unanimously based on the winnability factor.
V.N. Dileepkumar, four-term councillor of the CPI(M), is contesting as an Independent in the Unichira ward after he was denied a ticket, while Siddique Moolepadam has filed his nomination for the HMT Junction ward after resigning from the party.
Mr. Varghese rejected Mr. Dileepkumar’s allegation that K.T. Manoj, the party’s official candidate in Unichira, had worked against him in the previous election. “We have not received any such complaint,” he said. Mr. Manoj had also termed the allegation as “baseless”.
