The government’s decision to permit 15 lakh tonnes of sugar for export during the current sugar season will enable the sugar mills to plan their production in advance and channel surplus sugar into global markets, said the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA).
As a long-term measure, the ISMA strongly urged for revision of the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) of sugar, which has remained unchanged for over six years despite a steady escalation in production costs. It also sought upward revision of ethanol procurement price to reflect higher feedstock and conversion costs.
